My Hound Dog Has it Right

It’s eye-opening to watch a puppy interact with the world. I’ve watched my best buddy cower from the air-breaks on city buses, and act like she wanted to eat the clouds when the thunder and lightning crash. It’s so simple to see her emotions. She never hides them. She never ignores them. She never lies about them.

It’s eye opening to watch myself interact with the world. I cower from thunder and laugh at my puppy’s reaction to city buses, while trying as hard as I can not to show those emotions.

You can’t eat thunder… silly doggie.

We think we’re smarter than puppies. As people, we think that hiding emotions, ignoring their causes, and telling lies about why they run through us… we think that’s what life is about, convincing people to pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.

My hound dog has it right though. Steer clear of buses, and howl at the thunder when it rolls. No one needs a curtain to do that.
