Fire Light

I didn’t need to see you walking up,
to know that you were closing in.

I didn’t need to feel you touch my arm,
to know that you were next to me.

I didn’t need to see the balsam root,
to smell the flower that was in your hair.

I didn’t need to see the fire light,
to feel it in the warming air.

But I needed all those things from you,
to know that I would be okay.
