Absence of Failure

It is impossible to measure success by the absence of failure.
That would be equivalent to measuring self-esteem with a pint glass.
I’m trying to worry less about the outcome, and more about the process.
I want my heart to be in it, along with my body and mind.
So the emotions will be there too.
The giant pile of sadness and anger, confusion and debt.
That’s what losing feels like. It’s horrible.

The pendulum swings in both directions though… if you let it.
The smiles and the happiness, they are there for the taking.
It is never easy, picking yourself up, giving everything again.
But that is what this world needs from you.
The cost of those genuine smiles… everything you have inside you.
